WILL U.S. SENATE BLOCK PP DE-FUNDING?

Defund Planned Parenthood

The U.S. House has passed a $1.2-trillion spending bill that would eliminate the current federal healthcare mandate stripping Planned Parenthood of a huge slice of income from the federal government. However, a Senate bill introduced by Senator Roy Blunt [Missouri] contains provisions that basically undo everything the administration has been trying to do by regulation to defund Planned Parenthood,” says Jim Sedlak of the American Life League (ALL). The Senate bill would also prohibit Health and Human Services from cancelling the Teen Pregnancy Prevention (TPP), despite the agency’s attempts to cancel it two years early. “The program,” says Sedlak, “was basically one…that said Abstinence is the best thing to do, but we all know that you’re not going to do that—and so they would teach them the use of contraceptives, the use of various kinds of birth control,” he explains, explaining the TPP was a failure from the get-go. “Last year, there were literally a thousand parents who turned out for a school board meeting to fight the program going into their schools. That’s how bad it was.”
