ISRAEL REJECTS CONGRESSIONAL HELP
As part of a 10-year U.S./Israel security aid agreement, the Israeli government has signed a letter promising to return any additional money Congress appropriates for the years 2017 and 2018 above the agreed amount of $3.8 billion per year. The administration had been holding off on signing the deal until Congress reduced its funding to meet the president’s proposed levels, but Congress refused. Therefore, the administration pressed Israel to promise not to lobby for additional money. Israel agreed to this unprecedented move. “You know the [administration] pressured them into writing that letter,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham, Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee. “It is a level of antagonism against Israel that I can’t understand.”
SCRIPTURE: Genesis 12:3.
PRAY: America supports Israeli defense efforts.
ACTION: Go to the Salt & Light table. Write a postcard to your U.S. legislators. “Dear Sen./Rep., I support Israel. Thank you for increasing the security funding.”
